Abstract:
Conventionally, broadcasting and communication systems are
considered as different and separate areas because one is mainly applied to uni-directional services and the other bi-directional
services. As the available bandwidth for wireless systems is rapidly
expanding and the protocol of packet-based data transmission becomes unified
to Internet protocol (IP), however, the two systems can have identical
properties if we relax the end-to-end communication delay constraints. To efficiently utilize the advantages in convergence
networks, a lot of new issues should be considered. Some of them might be
easily solved by taking the current state-of-the-art technologies but others
might need new paradigms. In this talk, I would like to explain the issues by
focusing on signal processing issues such as what are outstanding problems,
what kind of signal processing techniques would be needed to increase the
usability of the convergence systems. Finally, I would like to share and
discuss about possible research directions. |
