Abstract:
　

Recording critical and informative system events in system logs has been a common practice for many organizations, ranging from storage, network, and server vendors to software vendors. Use storage system log analysis as a case, I will demonstrate how information in system logs can be used to analyze storage problems, and how log search and analysis can improve customer problem troubleshooting process. I will also discuss several challenges related to data mining in log analysis, such as event structure extraction, noise filtering, and fuzzy pattern extraction, using real-world examples.

Biography:
　

Weihang Jiang is currently a Senior Research Engineer at Pattern Insight, a software company provides search and analysis engine for semi-structured data In July of 2007, the company was a recipient of the National Science Foundation SBIR Phase I grant followed a year later by a Phase II grant.
In January 2008 the company was funded by Angel Investor and Venture Capital. Company\'s customers include CISCO, Juniper, NetApp, QualComm, Tellabs and Intel.

Dr. Jiang holds a B.S. from ZheJiang University, an M.S. from Ohio State University and a Ph.D. from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, all in Computer Science. He has published over 13 research papers in international conferences and journals.
