Abstract:
　

Traditional inventory models focus on effective replenishment strategies and typically assume that a commodity’s price is exogenously determined. In recent years, however, a number of industries have used innovative pricing strategies to manage their inventory effectively. These developments call for models that integrate inventory control and pricing strategies. In this talk, we present a brief survey of the research on the coordination of pricing and inventory management and report our recent work on models with costly price adjustment, models incorporating reference price effect and preservation properties of supermodularity and its application to inventory and pricing models.

Biography:
　

Xin Chen is an assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He obtained his PhD from MIT in 2003, MS from Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1998 and BS from Xiangtan University in 1995. His research interest lies in optimization and supply chain management. He received the Informs revenue management and pricing section prize in 2009. He is the coauthor of the book “The Logic of Logistics: Theory, Algorithms, and Applications for Logistics and Supply Chain Management (Second Edition)”.
