Abstract:
 

Structured products are an important part of the investment landscape in Asia. We examine the portfolio allocation decision, and discuss the potential advantages of using structured products versus more vanilla investments in a portfolio setting.

Biography:
 

Dr. Kim is currently Managing Director and Head of Retail Structured Products for Citigroup Global Markets in Hong Kong, covering equity, fixed income and hybrid products.

He is also a founder of and Responsible Officer for Citi First Investment Management Limited, a Hong Kong SFC-registered investment advisor with assets under management in excess of US$1.5 billion (as of June 30, 2009).

He originally started at Salomon Brothers (a predecessor of Citigroup) in 1993, and has since served in a variety of capacities at Salomon/Citigroup, including head of regional sales and structuring, and senior equity derivatives trader, both in Hong Kong, and quantitative research analyst in New York.

Prior to joining Salomon, he was a lecturer at Princeton University. Dr. Kim started his career on Wall Street in corporate finance at Kidder, Peabody & Co. in 1986. He earned his B.A. in economics, magna cum laude, from Harvard University and his Ph.D. in economics from Princeton University.

Dr. Kim also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Finance at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he teaches courses in advanced derivative applications.
