Abstract:
Subject to consumer and regulatory pressures, an
increasing number of companies are reporting their carbon emissions and
announcing targets to reduce these. In order to have realistic targets and be
able to analyze the reduction potential, measuring emissions is crucial. In
this talk, I will focus on carbon emissions in transportation and outline the
various methods of estimaing emissions, based on a
series of case studies conducted of European distribution networks. Based on
the insights developed in these case studies, we develop a number of formal
models to show the impact of regulatory measures, and also we show the value
of measuring emissions in detail. We conclude that regulatory measures to
price carbon may have different impact than anticipated, and that measuring
in detail may be worth the extra effort. |
