Course Information

Supply Chain Management involves the flows of materials and information among all of the entities that contribute value to a product, from the source of raw materials to end customers. This course will focus on the key concepts, models and techniques for effective strategic management of an integrated and coordinated supply chain. The emphasis is on recognising key tradeoffs, analysing system characteristics, and understanding effectiveness of tactics such as risk pooling, inventory policies, collaboration, and information sharing.

 

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, the student should have:

1.      an appreciation for the complexities of global supply chain,

2.      proficiency in analytical tools to design and optimize a supply chain, and

3.      ability to identify problems within a supply chain and an understanding of the risks, tradeoffs and implementation concerns of possible solutions.

 

Class participation (including arriving on-time) is an integral part of the learning process. Doing the readings PRIOR to class is highly recommended. Problems/exercises will be ^assigned ̄ and discussed during tutorial sessions. Whilst these assignments are not graded, they provide hands-on learning and doing them is highly recommended.

The usefulness of the course to you depends on the effort and deliberation that you devote to the course throughout the semester. In other words, your commitment and dedication are what makes the class worthwhile.

Assessment

In-class mid-term exam                                                        25 %

Final exam                                                                            75 %

 

All exams are closed book. 

For in-class exams, no notes or supplementary materials are allowed.

For the Final Exam, you are allowed to bring ONE A-4 size sheet with notes (you may write on both sides) to assist you in your exam.

 

No make-up will be given for the in-class mid-term exam unless you cannot attend due to hospitalisation or representing the University in an official capacity (prior notification and documentation required).
