2TB limitation on windows server backup

Windows Server backup has a limitation on 2TB on volume size being backup and the destination media size as well .
Using a bigger than 2TB external usb storage as destination disk for windows server backup will return below errors in application event log ID 517:

To backup a source volume of bigger than 2TB in windows server backup , the following error will appear :

3TB external USB disks are gaining popularity in the market , and Hitachi has also announced it’s 4TB SATA3 Hard disks these few days . Should we wait for VHD 2.0 , which may / likely supporting bigger than 2TB volume , before we can have a more useful windows backup program ?
